What is the j-1 trainee visa?

The j1 trainee visa allows people who have graduated for more than a year and who can prove 12 months of professional experience, to carry out an internship (or a V.I.E) for up to 18 months in a company in the USA.

People without a diploma can also apply for a j1 trainee visa if they can prove 5 years of professional experience related to the internship. It is nevertheless important to check the eligibility of your internship (your eligibility?) before starting the process for a j-1 trainee visa.
